The Planetoid Voga was known as the planet of
gold, since this metal could be abundantly found there.
Its surface was deserted, however it was
inhabited by Vogans, which lived 4 Km below its surface. The Vogans lived below
the surface, due to fear of the Cybermen, because they knew that the metal men
intended to destroy their home. Since the powder of gold affected the breathing
system of the Cybermen, taking them to the death, the Planet Voga was a threat
in potential for them, which was the reason for their intention to destroy it.
The Vogans however, believed that the Cybermen intended to destroy their
planetoid for revenge, but that was an erroneous concept, because the Cybermen
were not motivated by hate, but for instinct of preservation and expansion of
their species.
The asteroid entered in our solar system in
the Century 27, and it ended entering in the orbit of the Planet Jupiter,
becoming one more of its natural satellites. Previously it was drifting lost in
space, jumping among the stellar systems.

The space station Nerva Beacon, which was
studying it, initially believed that there was no life form on it. |
|
 |
When the Fourth Doctor visited Nerva Beacon,
one of its crew members, called Stevenson, told him that the purpose of the
station was to study Jupiter, telling him that the new moon, which was still not
classified in stellar maps was firstly called New Phobos but later it changed
to Voga. The Doctor had already heard about that planet. The mention of its name
immediately brought another name to the Doctor's memory, the Cybermen!

The inhabitants of Vogue were peaceful,
however one of its leaders, called Vorus, leader of the Guardians,
had created a of type missile and his intention was to use such
weapon to destroy any possible threat of the Cybermen. His rocket
had been baptized with the name of Sky Striker. Another Vogan called
Magrik was aiding Vorus in his private crusade. |
|
The hate of Vorus against the Cybermen was so
strong, that ended in blinding him and to taking him to madness,
fact that eventually culminated with his death. |

Vorus, in a talk with Tyrum, an old Vogan,
Counselor of Voga, questioned the old man why they should live below
the surface due to a myth of fear of the Cybermen, due to a war with
them centuries in the past. The discussion ended makingTyrum to
start disbelieving in Vorus and his guardians and consequently Tyrum
sent his militias to control the mines. That disagreement ended up
in a small civil war between the Vogans loyal to Tyrum and the
Vogans loyal to Vorus. |
|
The civil war drastically ended when two
Cybermen were tele transported to the underground of Voga and they
began to exterminate all Vogans that they found in their way. The
two sides conflicting of Voga had heavy losses against the two
Cybermen that were immune to the firearms of the Vogans. |

The plan of the Cybermen was to explode three
cobalt bombs in the core of Voga, which would entirely destroy the asteroid. As
the gold could affect their breathing systems, the Cybermen tied their
Cyberbombs to the bodies of three organic beings, the Doctor and two survivors
of the Space Station Nerva Beacon, Lester and Stevenson. The three should carry
the bombs into the core of the asteroid and there to leave them, having then
only 14 minutes to leave from the core and to arrive to a point of reach of the
Nerva Beacon tele transport. However the Cybermen didn't have the smallest
intention to keep their word and the detonators of the bombs would enter in
operation as soon as the three men were close to the core of Voga. The three
men worked together, with Harry, other companion of trip of the Doctor, and they
attacked the two Cybermen, trying to throw powder of gold in their breast units
, but without success. However, Lester sacrificed himself, exploding his bomb,
killing the two Cybermen. As the tracking radar of the two Cybermen was
destroyed in the explosion, the Doctor and Stevenson could get rid of their
bombs. The CyberLeader still tried to detonate them manually, however without
success.

The Cybermen still tried to throw the Space
Station Nerva Beacon, loaded of CyberBombs, on Voga, however the
Fourth Doctor was able to avoid the collision. |

The Cybermen still tried to throw the Space
Station Nerva Beacon, loaded of CyberBombs, on Voga, however the
Fourth Doctor was able to avoid the collision. They left the Doctor
and Sarah Jane in Nerva Beacon and fled in their CyberShip. The
Vogans threw their missile, Sky Striker, against the CyberShip,
destroying it and its crew members. Voga was finally safe. |
Curiosity: Voga is the name of an island of
gold, which Columbus was searching in the Atlantic Ocean.
