Skaro is the home planet of Daleks.
Skaro is a planet whose mass and dimensions are similar to the ones of the Earth, being the twelfth planet of its sun. |

It has only one continent that is divided in east and west halves, having almost the same sizes. When the First Doctor visited the planet, Skaro was a land devastated by nuclear weapons, whose main characteristics were petrified forests, lakes containing ferocious defective mutations of Daleks, and the Dalek City.

Before the rise of the Daleks, Skaro was the home of a species of humanoids with two races, the Kaleds (or Dals) and the Thals. Both races stayed in war against each other for a thousand years.
The two races lived in cities protected by domes, which didn't allow that aerial attacks reached the vital centers of their cities.
The hate among the two races had produced extremely lethal mass destruction weapons. The Thals had developed a rocket with a lethal load. If this rocket penetrated the dome of the Kaled City, it would exterminate all living creatures of it, total annihilation of the city. The Kaleds at their turn, were developing in a bunker below their city, through their principal scientist, Davros, a special type of weapon, which would be known later as Dalek.
From the extinct Kaleds, a part of their genes integrated the new species of mutants, known by Daleks. The surviving Thals mutated into a humanoid race, very peaceful, of clear skin and blond hair. Later the Thals left Skaro.
The inheritors of Skaro remained with a devastated planet, its seas were dead and its surface was almost deprived of life forms. However, Skaro was rich in minerals, that the Daleks used to build armies to conquer and to destroy other worlds, trying to build an interstellar empire. Some time later, the Daleks also abandoned Skaro. It was later reoccupied by the Imperial Dalek faction, under the command of Davros.
